Local News for March

Book your Garage Sale table now for May's Event, find out about our Clean-up day and more! Calgary is a very connected city and we receive a lot of information from the City and from various community-minded organizations. We thought it would be a good idea to post this information on our blog so locals can see what’s going on, participate in various surveys and have one place to get all their community information.

We will create a new story each month and update them as we receive more info – look forward to any feedback or comments:

March Construction Updates That May Affect You

Later this month, Flanders Avenue Interchange construction will result in some changes to traffic flow on Crowchild Trail and Richard Road SW. See a detailed map here.

Starting Monday, March 14 until Friday, March 18, there will be various overnight lane closures on Crowchild Trail (from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.) to accommodate the installation of girders for the new interchange:

  • March 14 and 15:  Southbound Crowchild Trail reduced to one lane
  • March 16, 17 and 18:  Crowchild Trail reduced to one lane in each direction

The lane reductions are scheduled for off-peak traffic hours, but major delays are expected. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes during these temporary lane reductions.

Beginning March 20, there will be a new off-ramp and road alignment for traffic exiting southbound Crowchild Trail for Richard Road SW.  The current off-ramp access to Currie Business Park from southbound Crowchild Trail will remain unchanged, but a second, new exit will be in place for traffic bound for Richard Road SW.

Richard Road traffic will travel further south along southbound Crowchild Trail, past the Currie Business Park exit, to take the new off-ramp.

This new traffic alignment for southbound Richard Road is not expected to result in traffic delays or significant changes to traffic flow. It will be in place until the new Flanders Interchange roundabouts are operational in fall 2016.

If you have any questions about the traffic impacts, please contact the Flanders Interchange project team via email or by phone at 888.587.5390, or visit Calgary.ca/trafficinfo.

Community Association Awareness Month is here!

Proclaimed by Mayor Nenshi, this month-long event aims to increase awareness among Calgarians on what a community association is, what they offer, and how to be part of it.

Did you know:

  1. Community associations provide endless opportunities right in your backyard
  2. They are run by your neighbours
  3. They offer a voice for your community
  4. They bring neighbours together

KGCA Clean-up Day scheduled for Sunday May 1

A Community Clean-up is a FREE day scheduled at your community centre where you can bring your household items that may not fit in your black, brown or blue carts like furniture or old fencing or items that fill up your carts too quickly or just an accumulation of items that are ready for the landfill. If you live in a multi-unit housing complex, we welcome you to bring your waste and recycling items to this event especially if it is closer than the designated community recycling depots.

Last year, 110 communities were served between April and October.

The Killarney-Glengarry Clean-up day will be held on Sunday May 1 from 9am – 2 pm. We need 15-20 volunteers to put on the event so your assistance is greatly appreciated. Calgary Community Standards provides funds for food and refreshments for the volunteers, advertising and promotion, gloves, garbage bags and any other items used to help Clean-up.

For more information about the KGCA event, see our poster here.
