A New Playground for Our Community - Vote & Get Involved!

As many of you know, a small, but dedicated group of volunteers have been working hard to build a new playground on 29th St SW, adjacent to the Killarney Aquatic Centre.
We are proud to say that the Killarney-Glengarry Community Association has been one of the top sponsors so far with a total donation of $20,000.  We know that communities are built around great public spaces - places to gather, to meet and to support all abilities. That's why we're so proud that this playground will be accessible to children with special needs -adding to the great facilities at the Killarney Aquatic Centre.
Now, with over 50% of funds now raised, the playground is a go for summer 2015 build! So what happens next? Here's how you can give your opinion and get involved.
We now have a draft design that we would love to get your feedback on - as per the above image. Simply comment on this post or email us with your feedback.
VOTE: We also want to get input on several extra pieces of equipment where we need to make some choices. There are several ways to vote on these:
  • Come along to our Easter Egg Hunt  on April 5, where the playground committee will have a booth and be available to answer your questions
  • Check out the survey and vote here until May 31, 2015
  • Comment or post on the playground Facebook page
VOLUNTEER: If you can help with coordinating fundraising or if you're keen to help build the actual playground, please email Chelsea Ince - she would love to hear from you!
DONATE BOTTLES: The playground committee are running a bottle drive in association with our Annual spring clean-up event. So come along and donate your empty cans and bottles to this great cause on May 3.
Here's to making our community a better place to live, work and to play!

Help Build a Playground In Our Neighbourhood

We are rebuilding the playground across from the Killarney Aquatic Center on 29th street SW. Follow us here to find out updates on the progress and ways to get involved. 3 years ago, Calgary embarked on a couple of big programs to help improve communities and green spaces. ImagineParks identified playgrounds that were unsafe and a Community Investment Fund was created to support their replacement. The playground on 29th scored a 4/5 on the 5 point 'safety code' scale meaning it is high priority for the city.

A group of local parents have piggy backed the replacement and decided it was a great opportunity to not just replace but to improve the whole space and make it a better community hub for families.

This project has been setup as part of the Killarney-Glengarry Community Association to enable fundraising and engage the community to improve one of the local parks!

Latest News:

  • The original build date of August 21/22 was delayed as the supplier of rubber for the surface of the playground ran out!
  • But, the old playground is now gone and we are all set for installation on September 25 & 26 2015
  • Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help so far
  • We are still looking for a few more volunteers to help inventory the supplies, document the install in photographs and help out with a launch party. If you think you can help, sign up online here or email Chelsea to find out more.
