Local News for February

Calgary is a very connected city and we receive a lot of information from the City and from various community-minded organizations. We thought it would be a good idea to post this information on our blog so locals can see what’s going on, participate in various surveys and have one place to get all their community information. We will create a new story each month and update them as we receive more info – look forward to any feedback or comments:

URGENT: More Volunteers Needed for Fundraising Casino, 28 & 29 February, 2016

We are still urgently looking for volunteers to help out at our Fundraising Casino in February. We get to do one of these events every 18 months and the money it raises helps support the Hall and lets us hold community events. As of today we still have 9 shifts open.

If you can help, check out the roles here and sign up online.

Holy Name School Outdoor Area Survey

Holy Name School has had approval for a naturalization project on their grounds (including trees, seating areas etc) to make it a more vibrant and useable space.

We love the idea of more gathering places in Killarney-Glengarry. Please help them as they design this area by taking this very quick survey on what you would like to see in this space. The survey will be open till the end of February.

Changes to Crowchild Trail

Do you use Crowchild Trail? The City of Calgary's Crowchild Trail Corridor study is looking at ways to improve this major access route, and they want your input.  Drop in to an open house and be heard! See more here.

Timbits Soccer Registration

Registration for the 2016 Season of Timbits Soccer will open on February 15 until spots are all filled. You can register online on the Richmond Knob Hill Community Association website.

Remember, you must be a community association member to take part, so if you live in Killarney-Glengarry, you can get your family membership for only$25 here.

Local Business Directory

It's important to support local businesses and services, especially in economic downturns. We have posted a simple directory on our website to help you find what you need.

If you have a business or service you would like us to list, please email us your details (name, address, website, opening hours etc).

Help Build Flood Resiliency in Calgary: Join the City's Advisory Group

Building resiliency to flooding is a top priority for The City of Calgary. Since the 2013 flood, we have repaired, restored and recovered from devastating and costly flood damage. With much of the recovery well on its way, the City's focus is to ensure we build flood resilience by implementing the 27 recommendations of the Expert Management Panel on River Flood Mitigation.

The City of Calgary is looking for community members from 2013 flood-affected and non-flood affected communities, business and interested representatives to participate in the Flood Mitigation Measures Community Advisory Group. The Community Advisory Group will provide input concerning flood mitigation measures to The City, who will then make recommendations for decisions by Council.

Join the City in developing the comprehensive suite of flood mitigation measures which will protect citizens, properties, critical infrastructure, vital services, communities and downtown from future river flood events.

Learn more about the selection process here.

There are many opportunities to get involved and to share input in addition to the Community Advisory Group.

For more information on the project, the Community Advisory Group and engagement opportunities, see the City's website.

Make 2016 the Year YOU Volunteer

We are so lucky to have the volunteers we do in this community, BUT with so few of us, it's hard to put on great events and make our neighbourhood even better. If you donated just a few hours of your time, it's amazing what we could all do together.

If you have a special skill - like painting, building, photography, writing, design or event management - we would love to hear from you! Even if you're not sure how you can be involved - get in touch: we always need more hands on deck at events!

If you think you can help, please email for more information.
