Summer Construction in our Neighbourhood

As part of The City of Calgary’s commitment to maintenance and repair of its roadways, pavements and sidewalks, significant rehabilitation work is being undertaken throughout the community of Killarney during the 2015 construction season. This will include the following major construction activities and programs:

  • Concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk repairs,
  • Wheelchair access program,
  • Driveway entrance reconstruction
  • Pavement rehabilitation (paving).

We are now into the milling and paving phase of the work, which will continue through August and September.

Project Update: Flanders Interchange Construction

On Saturday, June 27, the ramp from southbound Crowchild Trail to Flanders Avenue will be closed to allow for the installation of a storm pipe.  The detour will block southbound Crowchild Trail traffic from accessing the Currie Barracks site, the Flanders Avenue Bridge and Richard Road.

Alternate access to these areas from southbound Crowchild Trail will be via either the 33rd Avenue SW or 50th Avenue/Mount Royal Gate exits. Traffic headed north on Richard Road will also be able to cross Flanders Avenue Bridge, heading east.

Detour signage will be in place to highlight these alternate routes.

The closure has been scheduled for the weekend to avoid disrupting peak traffic.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your patience.

Signal improvements on 26th St and Bow Trail

The City of Calgary has been optimizing the signals on Bow Trail and 26 Street S.W., in an effort to improve traffic and pedestrian flow through the intersection. The changes will ultimately provide:

  • Improved crossing opportunities for pedestrians, and decreased wait times when crossing Bow Trail. Better traffic flow through this intersection. Longer green time for northbound 26 Street S.W.

The new traffic signal controllers were installed on Sunday, December 14 and the City is now monitoring and adjusting the timings as required to ensure the intersection is operating as effectively as possible.
