KGCA Board of Directors and Staff

The Killarney-Glengarry Community Association Board of Directors meets on a monthly basis to manage the continued oversight of the Community Hall, local programming, and community events. The Board is elected annually at our AGM, and we ask for a minimum two-year commitment. You can read about our history and our mission and vision here

PRESiDENT - Hilary Stout

Hilary is a recently-retired lawyer and thinks of herself as being “almost-born in Calgary,” having arrived in town at 2 weeks of age. She grew up in the Southwest and attended Western Canada high school before moving to Vancouver and Toronto in pursuit of  career as a travel and advertising copywriter, but came home in 1990 to start a legal career. After graduating from the University of Calgary law school, she spent 25 years practicing in the areas of insurance defence, employment law and contracts in general.  She is also crazy about dogs (but allergic to cats) and designs and makes jewelry for both people and dogs.

“I love being on the KGCA Board. I’ve met some amazing people, and I like what we stand for - inclusion and empowerment of our residents!”

 

Vice President- Thomas Mo

Thomas hails from Toronto originally and moved to Calgary in 2007 right before the global market collapsed. After living in Victoria Park for 6 years and Mardaloop/South Calgary for 5 years, he moved with his family (wife Courtney, children Ophelia and Franklin) to Killarney to be closer to family in 2018. He owns a business (Alberta Apparel since 2015) and also serves in the Tech community full time. Thomas has a passion for networking, socializing, connecting, and creating events for people to enjoy. TREASURER - Ted Bobier

Ted Bobier has lived in Killarney for the past 4 years with his wife and two young boys. Ted moved from Waterloo Ontario to Calgary in 2010 to pursue his finance degree and ski. 13 years later he is fortunate to now call Calgary home. Ted has worked in finance and capital markets for the past 10-years and in his free time he enjoys volunteering, skiing and family activities. 


 

SECRETARY - Elena Gadaeva

Elena has been interested in helping people for her whole life and is always asking herself: “What can I do for others?” Her first volunteer experience was with Doors Open YYC in 2014. Her experiences there led to working with the owner of Great Russian Ballet to bring the show to the Arts Commons theatre. She currently works full time as a Care Ambassador for veterans at a homecare network.

Elena looks forward to hearing from the community about what they need and expect from her in her new role. “It’s not about me, but about us,” she says. “Together we can build a prospective, joyful community and a place that we call Home!”

 

DIRECTOR at Large -

vinod balakrishnan

Vinod moved to Killarney with his wife and daughter in the fall of 2023 and began volunteering as a director-at-large with KGCA. He is very interested in organizing events for the community and helping KGCA remain the active and vibrant organization it is.

Vinod works as a project manager for an engineering consultancy. His pastimes include pub trivia, volunteering, and exploring all the wonderful cuisines Calgary restaurants have to offer.

DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS OUTREACH - Kristi mulrain

Kristi moved to Calgary in 2012 from Vancouver, BC. She and her husband moved to Killarney in 2015 after looking for an inner city community with easy accessibility to downtown and the right vibe for raising a family. They have two sons and love all the parks and programs offered in the community.

As the Director of Business Outreach, Kristi is passionate about working with the local businesses to help bring more patrons through their doors. Kristi loves chatting with business owners and coming up with opportunities to increase their exposure in the community.

Kristi’s also works with community-based businesses to develop relationships, recruit sponsors for Events and Member Perks Program, foster “Shop Local” programs to support local small business (particularly during COVID) and work with other CAs (particularly neighbouring CAs) and BIAs to develop cooperative programs.

 

DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES & fundraising - Halyna tataryn

Halyna moved to Calgary in 1995, via Winnipeg, Edmonton and the Ukraine. She moved with her husband, Andrew, and young family to Killarney in 2005, attracted largely by the Montessori Program at Killarney Elementary.  Finding she lived within walking distance of the Heritage Bakery was, she says, a bonus.

Halyna has worked as a realtor and developer in the neighbourhood for many years. She has a passion for Heritage homes and is working on getting her current house designated as such, in order to protect the unique architecture. At the same time, she is developing a unique townhome project between the Killarney and Holy Name schools.

“Fundraising is critical to the operation of the community and the community centre. No one jumped at this position, so I volunteered … I can’t help but contribute to the maintenance of our century-old community centre!”

 

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT - Colin Knoll

Colin is a born and raised Calgarian who lives in Killarney with his wife. Colin has been in Calgary for the last two years, after living in Edmonton for 8 years. 

Colin works in business strategy in the financial services industry and He is also an educator at an Alberta university where he teaches business management. 

When he's not working, Colin can be found being in nature and hiking the Rocky mountains.


DIRECTOR OF EVENTS - Jessica Blaney

Jessica, a native Calgarian, resides in Killarney alongside her husband. On a personal note, she is the proud mother of three grown children. In her professional life, Jessica is a Mortgage Broker, serving the Alberta real estate sector. She harbours a passion for nurturing communities that are inclusive, vibrant, and collaborative. During her leisure time, Jessica and her husband enjoy exploring the breathtaking landscapes of the Canadian Rockies through hiking and backpacking adventures.

 
 

HALL General Manager - natalie Christensen

Natalie was born and raised in Calgary. She moved to Killarney in April of 2019 with her husband and daughter, and not long after started managing the Killarney-Glengarry Community Hall.

Natalie has found a fulfilling purpose in being involved with her community’s CA and loves working in the background at the heart of the community. She took a brief leave from her position to welcome her baby boy in to the family. Since then, she has moved out to Cochrane while continuing in her position as GM with the KGCA. She has a deep love for the community and hopes to assist in creating a safe, welcoming and enjoyable space for all Killarney residents.
